Vaseline is a true classic in skincare. This versatile product is economical to use and can be applied not only to the skin, but also to dog paws, leather, metal and much more.
Vaseline (also known as petrolatum) is a mixture derived from mineral oil and obtained from paraffins. For cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications, it undergoes a particularly thorough purification process. A distinction is made between white (Vaselinum album) and yellowish petrolatum (Vaselinum flavum). White petrolatum – as used in BANO Vaseline – is the higher-quality form. In dermatology, petrolatum has been used for decades as an ointment base or in combination with other active ingredients.
Vaseline is particularly suitable for very dry, cracked or barrier-impaired skin. The protective cream forms a protective film on the skin’s surface. It helps protect the skin from chafing as well as from wind and cold during periods of intense exposure. It is particularly suitable for sports such as cycling, running and swimming. During wart or corn treatments with RAPID or WARZIN, Vaseline can also be used to protect the surrounding healthy skin. It also helps keep lips soft and dog paws protected in cold weather and on salty pavements.
We use Vaseline in accordance with Ph. Eur. – meaning its quality complies with the European Pharmacopoeia, a sign of high quality.
Since Vaseline is derived from mineral oil, so-called MOSH and MOAH are frequently the subject of discussion. However, according to current scientific knowledge, no health risks are expected from the use of highly purified mineral oils in cosmetic products. In addition, mineral oils are only permitted in the EU if they meet strict purity requirements.
Vaseline is a proven, well-researched raw material. It protects the skin, helps retain moisture and supports the skin’s natural barrier function – a classic with more benefits than its reputation might suggest.
