Marmot oil

The effects of marmot oil in home cures has been valued for centuries, particularly in the Alps. It has long been used for tension, lumbago, aching muscles and joint pain e.g. after overexertion when playing sport. It supports joints and the entire musculoskeletal system in particular.

The active ingredients in pure marmot oil include various fatty acids such as palmitic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid, linolenic acid, vitamin E and (natural) corticosteroids. Applied after sport, walking and physical exercise, marmot oil promotes fast regeneration of the musculoskeletal system. Numerous masseurs and therapists use Murmelin every day. And something that many people don’t know: pure marmot oil can also be drunk. This has a beneficial effect on the stomach and lungs.

Owing to significant increases in their population, marmots are hunted in late summer (August/September) before they start hibernation. In Austria, around 7500 marmots are shot each year but only a small percentage of these animals are painstakingly processed to be used for the valuable marmot oil. The animals are not hunted for these salves; rather, the use of marmot oil should be seen as an intelligent use of the animals that have been hunted.

We only use the oil from Tyrolean and Vorarlberg marmots in Murmelin®. Murmelin is the longest established marmot salve in Austria. Many customers have now been trusting its effects for almost 40 years.
